Abstract

The purpose is to examine the leading indices of the economic cycle recently formulated in Mexico, in their capacity to recognize the presence of recessions in the Mexican economy and especially the most recent one. To this end, the first section establishes a chronology of the "classical economic cycles" of the Mexican economy in the last twenty years. The second section reviews the leading indices of the cycle prepared by the OECD, INEGI, The Conference Board and the undersigned, in terms of their capacity to reveal in advance the presence of recessions in the identified cycles.
