In recent years, there has been growing interest among countries in the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs); Let's take a look outside our country to observe the practices they are implementing and the results that these actions have experienced.
Governments around the world are increasingly focusing on initiatives that encourage business improvement. In New Zealand, a particular target of such initiatives has been the small and medium enterprise sector and they consider this to be the sector that contributes most to the economic and social objectives of a country (Massey,2003). In the British economy, the importance of helping SMEs to develop and grow for the national economy is considered and a good number of government initiatives are focused on promoting the achievement of their objectives. In England, 94 percent of the 3.6 million English businesses employ less than ten people and more than ten million people work in firms with a workforce of less than 100 people (Hill, 2000). in employment in England across all industry sectors exceeds 60 per cent. Williamson (2001) also suggests the importance of SMEs in the United States, since more than 99 percent of employees are from small companies.
The importance of SMEs is undeniable and despite the fact that, as Ghobadian and Gallear (1996) mention, “Small and Medium Enterprises are increasingly being recognized as the lifeblood of modern economies”, greater knowledge is needed. about these types of organizations.
