Abstract

In recent years, dissatisfaction about “GDP per person” as an adequate variable to measure economic growth and development prompted the formulation of multidimensional indices such as those produced by various international agencies. All of them can be expressed through a similar process and their indicators can be regrouped to propose alternative indices that quantify the priority objectives of development strategies “fair, sustainable and full employment”, “fair, competitive and balanced” or other adjectives with which they are used. want to rate it. Therefore, the first section describes the most important indices, exemplifying their calculation for a sample of 61 countries in 2002; In the second section, others are proposed and combined with the previously reviewed indices to synthesize the stated objectives and finally, in the conclusions, attention is drawn to the feasibility of developing them also at the regional level.
