The employed population in the state has shown important changes in its sectoral participation. According to the total Economically Active Population (EAP), the primary sector went from 66.9% in 1930 to 22.7% in 1998, marking a clear decreasing trend starting in the 1960s. In those years, a process of urbanization began to manifest itself in Sonora, with the industrial sector gaining importance, particularly manufacturing and electronics as the main generators of employment.
