Abstract

In this essay we are proposing a briet answer to the question of how do industrial firms in France and Germany finance their activities ? We found that the country and size effects are very strong: In both countries selffinance is the most important (through reserves in France and provisions in Germany), followed by bank credit, particularly for german small and medium sized firms. We also found that while the French financial structure at the firm level is fairly homogeneous, in the German case it is highly heterogeneous.
