Abstract

There is an investigation trend in the academic literature that supports that the gender diversity in the board of directors of the companies is related to the existence of a corporate social responsibility policy. In the present study, focused on companies listed on the Spanish stock market, the presence of female directors in the highest governance body of companies is associated with the publication of sustainability reports and their disclosure according the recommendations of the Global Reporting Initiative, as well as with the ownship of social foundations, being statistically significant. However, the fact that the company discloses in its report the disbursement of expenses for philanthropic activities does not seem to be related to gender diversity in the board of directors.
