Computer-Based Information Systems for Management in Organizations
Keywords:
Information Systems, Computers, Administration, OrganizationsAbstract
At the dawn of computers, companies could decide whether or not to use these electronic devices. The managers of the first companies to use computers were visionaries, as it gave them a certain advantage over their competitors. As the cost of hardware and software fell, the applications those companies pioneered began to be within the reach of virtually all companies, even the smallest ones.
The current manager doesn't really have a choice as to whether or not to use computers. The question is not whether to use computers, but whether to use them. Most companies have become totally dependent on their computer-based accounting information systems and could not handle a single day's transactions without them. Some companies have also established systems that provide information to solve problems, which streamline the flow of information and offer highly versatile insights.
The importance of a systems view is considered in business operations as systems embedded in a larger environmental framework since it prevents the manager from getting lost in the complexity of the organization's structure and the details of the work, recognizes the need to have good objectives, highlights the importance of all parts of the organization collaborating and finally places a high value on feedback information that can only be obtained with a closed-loop system.
